Elementary Classroom
Following your elementary classroom observation, describe how art materials, visual forms, images, or activities were used in the classroom by answering the following three questions (200 words total):
1. What form of arts integration or interdisciplinary learning units have you observed? In what ways were the visual forms investigated, learned, discussed, or produced in the classroom?
In my classroom this semester, I have not observed any use of art. When they read books, they will sometimes discuss what is happening in the picture and how it adds to the words of the book, but other than that I have not observed art in my classroom.
2. Was there a Big Idea or theme used? If so describe. Were students working with narrative, observation, imagination, and / or visual thinking?
When they look at pictures with books, they are mainly making observations. They will discuss what is happening in the picture and point out "noticings" that other students in the class might have missed out on seeing.
3. What suggestions would you have for integration and interdisciplinary learning for this unit or lesson you observed? Try to think how you could make the learning more meaningful, connected, and deeper. Be specific.
I believe that adding art into the classroom can help students make connections and learn in a deeper and more meaningful way. Not every student learns the same. Writing paragraphs may work great for one student, but be a hindrance to seeing a different students true potential. Integrating art into a classroom can allow students different avenues to show their intelligence and be appreciated.

Art Classroom
Following your art room observations describe (200 words total):
1. The content of the lesson: written and spoken objectives, and resources used
In the art classroom I observed, the teacher was working with kindergarteners. She was very patient with them, and used artistic terms and language, but then would restate it in more kid friendly language. They used oil crayons, regular crayons, and paper. I did not see the use of any markers or pain.
2. The teacher: her / his teaching strategies and format / process of the lesson as presented
The teacher did a great job of getting the kids engaged and interacted in the lesson. She would tell them what they were going to be doing, then model it step by step, and then release tables to get their materials. She would then walk around help students who needed that assistance.
3. Student engagement of the lesson: classroom atmosphere, environment, and classroom behavior management
The atmosphere of the classroom was very laid back. They students were allotted more freedom in the art class as opposed to their general classroom, yet they respected that freedom. The art room had a safe seat, yet no students ever sat in it. The kids were all very social with their art work. They shared ideas and helped each other out.
