Unit 2: relationships reflection
The relationships unit was intriguing and really allowed for the thought of relationships in an out of the box way. In the first studio with Mary Cassett, we focused on stamping. I decided to choose a relationship between my team to Haiti as well as my relationship with the beautiful country itself. I chose to print the words in Creole to portray my relationship with the Haitian people in their own language. The words say "God Bless You", which was one of the first things the Haitian taught me in Creole. It allowed to me take one picture and discover my relationship with many different things from one photograph.
The second studio was very interesting and I think this would be a big hit with students. We were to cut out magazine clips and then each particular piece was a group effort. This threw in a new element of finding a relationship between things that would generally not have any kind of relationships. This could help students think critically about what their idea about relationships is normally, and how they view relationships where there typically wouldn't be one.
The third studio focused on pop up houses as inspired by Do Ho Suh. This allowed for us to think about our relationships with a place around us. Somewhere where students feel safe and welcomed. For me, that was my home. The pop up home did not necessarily need to be a house. This would be great for students to think about relationships according to a place and not just with people.
